BBC IPlayer problem

Streaming BBC IPlayer
When I try to watch a BBC program it's like watching a series of "stills" and is really quite unwatchable in spite of the IPlayer diagnostics speed check indicating that my download speed is OK.
I am using Windows XP Home SP3, 1.1 GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, loads of free hard drive with Firefox 3.6.4.
Must I assume that my processor is simply too slow?

have you anything else running at the same time?

Absolutely nothing Johnny.

Have you got the new beta version maybe? I found it very glitchy and went back to the old version.

Hi realist, nope haven't tried the beta, simply because it is still in Beta!

Are you using the latest version of Adobe Air?

Yes Sea Urchin, Adobe Air installed.

If you download a program does it then play satisfactorily?

I've tried that Sea Urchin and the play back, having downloaded a program, is just as hopeless.
