Basic Laptop £350 ish??

  lollygee00 16:44 06 Jan 2010

Hi, I’m looking for a cheap laptop around £300-£350. I will mainly be using this for the internet but don’t want anything too slow. I will not really be downloading anything but may upload some pictures from my camera occasionally. Please can anyone advise of a basic laptop to fit this criteria. I require a screen size of 15" ish.

medion do a range of laptops in that price range, they are available in tesco, sainsburys and aldi, but if you can manage £399 there is a really good acer on sale at currys, acer aspire 5738z it comes with windows 7 64 bit has a 15.6 inch high def screen, intel duo core cpu, 250gb hard drive, 3gb ram, has 4 usb ports, a vga connection, an hdmi connection and a built in card reader, and built in webcam.

I have HP 510 Laptop, but just bought a Samsung NC10 Netbook running XP Home 160Gig Hard Drive, 1Gi Memory, Card Reader, Web Cam, 3 USB 2 ports a VGA port Bluetooth and Wireless Plus Ethernet connection. Only thing missing is a Optical Drive. I just bought one from Computer Fair in Sheffield for £39 a SlimLine Multi DVDRW DL Ram Drive.

Netbooh from Curry's £259 less £20 Cash Back from Samsung, Drive cost as above. 1.6 Atom Processor gives about 7 hour run time on battery screen is 10.1 inch with a good keyboard. I think PC World are doing the same Netbook as its the Same Group as Curry's And its not slow either loading or running. although its set on Normal Speed mode it will run both faster or Slower, depends how you want to use it.Very lite at the side of normal Laptop and does it all

Take a look at PC World online.
They do refurbs that are basically brand new factory recons with full manufacturers warranty.
I picked up an Acer 5536 2.2Ghz/500GB HD/4GB mem for £329 a month ago.

I would not touch a Acer, not me personally. seen too much trouble with them and support from ACER is a complete waste of time

well touch wood mine has been fine so far although only had it a few weeks but i deal with all my own upgrades and repairs saves time and hassle of getting the manufacturers or the likes of pc world and their sky high prices to do it

I agree with jamesd1981 there is nothing wrong with ACER - there are 3 ACER laptops in the family one of which is 7yrs old and still going strong! Purchased the one from Tesco that jamesd1981 refers to about 3 weeks ago for my son - it had £100 OFF at that time but it looks like it has now gone back to £499 -Great Spec! PC World,Dixons group have the same model laptop at £399 but the spec is different - ie only 250GB hard drive and 3GB ram. but does have Windows 7 Home Premium on it.
