Base.wim what is this file in temp folder

Hi I am using a hp presario cq 60 laptop,with vista home premium,i have found this file in the temp folder-BASE.WIM . it is 4.7 gig in size.can i delete it?,in my computer there is a recovert D partition that says 1.8 gb free of 10.6 gb,is this the recovery image ,if so wht is it oin the temp frlder,any help please

thanks badhair1963 but i am astill a biy confused,if this file is part of the d recovery file why is it in the temp folder?
i am still unsure if i delete this file will i delete the recovery file.the base.wim is on c/temp and the recovery partition is on D,any ideas thanks again

ps wen i click on properties it says date created 27/3/10-00.11,modified 27/03/10-00.23,accessed 27/03/10-00.11 i deleted it but put it back from the recycle bin

Having had a quick look on Google, the general consensus seems to be that you can delete it. Have you got a working set of rescue disks?

You might be better waiting until someone who knows a bit more about it than I do gives you an answer. I'm just going by what I've found by searching Google.

I think you will find it is safe to delete this if it is in the temp folder.

You say the base.wim file is on C/temp and the recovery partition is on D (this is a very small file on a laptop) so this really answers your query.

thanks for the replies,just one thing,when i run c cleaner the file is still in the temp folder ,after the clean up and i have clean temp files enabled,and the d recovery has 8.8 gig of the 10 full with the recovery i yake it it must be safe to delete the one in temp as i dont see how they could be related if on different partitions i.e recovery on D,BASE.WIM on C/temp , thanks again
