the machine was working fine before i decided to reinstall winxp home
part way through the installtion i get the following message "a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

i have tried a friends win xp pro disc and the same thing happens

what is this and how can i cure it ???

the problem i have is that windows isn't even loaded/installed.....most of the info referes to drivers but surley i need windows to install and run before i can do anything about drivers ?

it always happens at the same point ....35 mins remaining as its installing "devices" ???thanks

Have you tried reseating you r memory and other hardware?

no but i will ben and also i am going to remove everything thats not necessary modem etc

If you are using a Recovery type disk to reinstall your copy of XP. this may be causing the problem.

i tried using the recovery disc and a friends copy of xp pro same result
