Backup in XP Home

  phil.smith 10:16 13 Sep 2004

I have a HP Pavilion t185 running XP Home.

To install SP2 I am recommended to backup using the windows backup utility which does not come automatically with Home. I did not get a XP Home cd with the computer but a partition on the C drive (called D) where I had to make recovery CDs in case of problems

How then can I get backup? I have tried what is recommended in PC Advisor SP2 pages but obviously without the XP CD I cannot get anywhere

Is this any good:

Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file in the following location on the Windows XP Home Edition CD-ROM [in this case it is on your D drive, not on the CD} to start a wizard that installs Backup:

Or do a search on the hdd from

and if you have it, try running it.

Hi Diodorus

I tried running your suggestion but it tells me there is no such place

I haven't tried a search though

Are you sure you doubleclicked the Ntbackup.msi file from \VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP?

It's not installed by default on Home, only Pro.

Otherwise Issue 111 (October 2004) of PC Advisor included Acebackup 2003 on the cover disk.

Many thanks all especially GroupFC
