backing up system restore points?

hi,just to be safe,can i copy the file that is used to restore back to an earlyer date?.is just if things get bad,(in windowsXP),then i can backup also a having the system restore program would be nifty,cheers.ben

The file that is used to launch the System Restore interface is

C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe


but as there are many things that can go wrong with SR the usefulness of copying this elsewhere is questionable.

That doesn't have your back up it is the System Restore launcher program. It can't do any harm to copy it.
