Back up for PC

My 6 year-old PC (XP home) feels as though it is it's about to give up one of these days, maybe soon. I have lots of files (music, video, photos plus the usual documents etc which I do not want to lose. Please tell me the best (ie fastest, saftest, simplest) way to back up what's on my hard drive. I've thought about an external hard drive - is this the way to go - or what? Thanks folks!

Acronis True Image if you want to backup your complete system. Or just put your data files onto an external HD if thats all you are worried about

If you've got a large Flash Drive you could copy everything to that - then rememebr not to use it for anything else. They are VERY cheap now (eg you can get 4GB for approx £18.)

External hard drive you can get 250G/byte for around £50 then transfer all your stuff over via Explorer or as said get Acronis
