AVG not reconising Dial-up connection

I am running AVG free edition on Win 98 SE. When I try to run update manager, I eventually get a message to say that AVG couldn't find a connection, even though I have a dial-up connection active.

Is there a setting somewher that I can check?

This is a frequent problem with AVG, I think because so many have it the servers get very busy!

It took me about three attempts to get the latest update this evening. I think you just have to keep trying.

Call me cynical but I had the free version and also had problems connecting. I thought the product was good enought to buy which I did and hey presto instant updates.

There was a thread saying how to mod free avg to get its updates from click here, instead of free.grisoft.cz to solve this problem.

OK - Cynical!

The avg url.ini folder needs changing to look like this.

[SERVER_NAME]
1=free.grisoft.cz
2=click here
3=click here

[SERVER_URL]
1=click here
2=click here
3=click here
Actual URL=3

Suggest saving a renamed copy of the original just in case though.

That didn't work very well did it? I'll re-post in a minute or two.
