AVG 8 Refuses to instalL

  ray27 13:31 01 Jun 2008

I have uninstalled AVG 7.5 free as it is no longer supported and tried to install AVG 8 free but when it checks my system it says that another virus protector is running on my system and advises me to uninstall it before installing AVG 8

I don’t have any other virus protector and have used AVG 7.5 without any problems.
Can any one tell me what the problem could be or suggest a free alternative to AVG 8,

any advice would be most appreciated cheers Ray

then install 8 over the top (it will remove 7.5)

On my first attempet I had not uninstalled AVG 7.5
So when I tried to install avg 8 and it said there was already another virus protector running I thought it was refering to AVG 7.5 so I uninstalled it

that are installed via the Control Panel to see if there is anything there that is AV?

May also be a residual folder in 'programs'.

Yes I have also tried anything to do with Grisoft and avg via search and also checked the startup via msconfig

go to click here AVGfree forum for help to install AVGfree 8

by the way AVG 7.5 does not run out of updates until 31st Dec 2008 despite the popups telling you otherwise click here

I've found one similar case to yours in a forum but no solution unfortunately.

Other than suggesting that you try Avast I'm struggling sorry.

Also note that before you uninstall any program to have to stop it running first.

I uninstalled AVG 7.5 then ran RegCleaner,
AVG 8 installed no problems.

Are there any processes running that are AV or simlar?

Do you have any real-time malware monitoring software running? That might be causing it.

If not, run EndItAll2 and try installing again click here
