could you tell me if you can program avast to scan at a certain time and also update at a certain time and if so how thanks leo

i would think so most of them can be. try properties or somewhere there should scheduler.

Avast does have a task scheduler that will do what you want, but it is only available in the "pro" version. Unfortunately upgrading to the pro version costs $40.00

While the free version can't be scheduled to run at a specific time, you can select "avast! antivirus" from the screensaver selection in Display Properties. The computer will then perform a virus scan while it's otherwise idle.
As to updating at a specific time, no need. avast! automatically checks for an update as soon as you log on and at four hourly intervals after that.
