Auto USB Recognition

I have an Acer Aspire 1691 WLMi and am running it with 2GB RAM and Nortan Anti Virus and Spysweeper, I connect using AOL.

My problem is this:

I had an old laptop and took the hard drive out and installed it in a cradle and thought this would be ideal for a secondary storage device.

However, after it working like a dream, I have plugged it into the USB of my new laptop tonight, and the auto recognition of something plugged into the USB port has not kicked in.

Does anyone know why this is, or how I can enable this?

Surely as something is plugged into the USB port it should recognise it and a) try to install or b) prompt you to insert a CD?

Any help would be appreciated...

Many Thanks

Please ignore this request for assistance.

I went into Performance and Maintenance, Hardware Profile and enabled the USB Mass Storage Device, and it kicked in and worked.

I still have no idea why this was disabled, but I am so glad it now works..

Apologies for any misdirection......
