Do you have the make and model number of your m/board? It's very likely that the drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer's support site.

The motherboard make and model information will provide details of the (presumably onboard sound chipset) you are using i.e. C-media, Realtek etc.

You can then either download the drivers and install them again from the click here website or the chipset manufacturer's website support pages.

If it's a sound card then, again, the drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.

Just how exactly, so everyone will learn?

I did a system restore to a date that the sound driver was working and it was restored and is working OK. Thanks to all who tried to help

You would be better ticking this one as resolved and starting a new posting.
