ATI Graphics Cards and Windows 98SE

Does anyone know of any conflicts between ATI Graphics Cards and Windows 98SE?

We are now on our third ATI card since April. We keep having problems with the screen either freezing or going totaly blank. The first card was a Sapphire Radeon 9700 128mb. Then we got our money back and bought a Gigabyte Radion 9700pro 128mb, which also failed after a few weeks. Last week we installed a Gigabyte Radion 9800pro 128mb and this is now giving the same problem.

Our system is a Gigabyte GA-8ST800 motherboard, 2.4Ghz P4, 512Mb DDR Ram, Creative Audigy soundcard running Windows 98SE.

Does anyone know of anything we could try before we send yet another card back to the manufacturers (who insist on repair)?

did you use up to date drivers and what is your psu rated at?

Yes. Downloaded the latest drivers from the Gigabyte website. The PSU is rated at 300w.

go for 350 - 400 watter i would say it will help.

lack of power may be causing lock ups.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that, don't really want to wait 2 months for them to repair the card again.

this little calculator will give you a rough guide to the power you need.

click here only a rough guide mind.

Yeh, looks like the PSU is a bit small, the link you gave showed us needing (roughly) a minimum of 316w!

Thanks for your help.
