Athlon Uprade......Advice

  zinnie 12:25 29 Mar 2006

I am thinking of upgrading my Athlon XP processor with an Athlon 64 3000+....there is a choice of L2 cache of 512Kb or 1MB.....Anyone with any experience of the likely speed improvement of having the larger L2.

Have you already checked that your motherboard can support it?

Difficult to quantify, but will be most noticeable when multi-tasking.

there's a cpu comparator on Tom's Hardware guide. I'll post back with a link if I can still find it on their new improved website

try this click here

there appears to be several Athlon 64 3000's so I assume they include the comparison you want

I did not know that the Athlon 64 had a 1MB L2 cache. Can you post a link to it please.

thanks guys for your posts....'tom's hardware' does give me some useful information.
'second time'..if you click on to the highlighted Athlon 64 in 'keef66's post ,it will take you to a site showing you a variey of Athlon 64 processors with a 1MB L2

Thanks but none of this links are opening. The only 3000+'s listed are using either 512k or 128k cache.:-(

Doesn't matter.
