Athlon speed

I have recently installed a new M?B and AMD Athlon Chip.
Now I'm not sure what the BIOS settings should be.

System properties is reporting the chip is running at 1.24Ghz
But the chip is a 2600XP. Is this normal?

Here are my system specs..

Bios Rev1005
M/B Asus A7N8X Deluxe ver 2.0
Amd Athlon 2600XP
512MB PC2700 DDR-333 Ram
120GB 7200RPM HDD
Geforce FX 5200 128MB Graphics

If anyone has the same setup and knows the best Bios setup, please let me know.

I'm thinking I have the FSB or multipliers set wrong!.

go into bios. i can`t remember which setting you go to but probably advanced. anyway click thriugh till you find your chip setting. it will probably read 1.24 mb. use page down till it gives your proper cpu speed. press F10 then Y.

your cpu/memory settings should both be at 166
eg 166/166 (as long as your proc is a 222fsb)

if its a 266fsb then you should set them both to 133 (133/133) you could try 133/166 but it may not work.

good luck

it isnt the cpu/memory settings you want, thats just to sync the RAM to the CPU.

The multiplier is locked (or if it isnt it will still set it self toits default) so it is the FSB, most board default there boards to a slower FSB as then you wont blow the chip up when you boot the first time.

If your CPU is showing a mulitplier of 15.5 is needs a FSB of 133, if it is showing less than 15.5 then it requires a FSB of 166
