Asus K8V SE SATA Hell

  PhiltheFragger 10:41 11 Sep 2005

New build PC with single SATA Maxtor diamondmax 120gb, on an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe mobo, Win xp SP2.

I have the bios on chip sata boot rom enabled, the promise raid controller disabled as there is only 1 drive,

I have put the SATA drivers from Asus CD onto floppy using the "make disk utility"

Pressed F6 on xp cd boot, it loads driver then says it cant detect anything.

during the bios boot up it says that it can detect maxtor hdd on sata 1, sata 2 is empty

Banging head against brick wall, any ideas anybody

Sorted it by downloading a VIA driver from their web site

The ASUS driver just did not work

This is not what I expect from a big company like ASUS

The reason it didn't work is that on your motherboard you only need the extra(F6 at set up) drivers to set up a SATA raid array. With only one disc the is no raid array for the Asus driver to detect.

Setting up a single disc SATA drive uses the via chipset drivers as the chipset has native SATA capability for up to two single discs.

Hope that explains things ;o))
