Asus A7N8X + Athlon XP2500

  suffolk lad 00:30 26 May 2003

Just built a new PC using the above plus 512 Meg DDR Ram. When running through POST, the CPU is either reported as XP1100 or not reported at all; also ram is not reported correctly at 100 MHz only. Appears to run OK. Have blown bios with latest release (1004) from Asus website. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

have you loaded asus update from MOBO disc?

fsb may be wrong should be 166fsb, seems like yours is 100fsb. For 2500xp (barton core) mulitpler is 11 so 100x11=1100ghz wheres 166x11= ~1.83ghz, make sure that it is set to 166fsb. Also i believe this board has a jumper to the left of the hefty heatsink, the should be set to 1+2 to enable 133/166fsb (maybe shown as 266/333 in manual - same thing). If it is on pins 2+3 then only 100fsb is enabled.

I have deluxe version of board so there may be a difference where the jumper is located

Also you should be able to pick it up online for £96-98 + p&p.
If you can try and get rev.2.0 board.
To note you need to get twin pairs of memory to run dual channel in this board.
