Some times when i close internet explorer i get the following error:

explorer.exe-application error

followed by

The Instruction at "0x7721d1fd" referenced memory at "0x74874874". The memory could not be read .Click ok to terminate the program.

please advise.. i have been getting this error for quite some time and yesterday i reinstalled windows xp and with no other programs installed yet this error still came.

could this be a software or a hardware issue ?

thanks in advance for any replies. i have to step out for a while so i won't be able to reply immediately. please don't think that i am ignoring this thread.

That may be the fix you need. Are you on automatic updates?
I'm on XP and have been receiving service pack 2 updates for a while now.

This thread refers to the same problem, which I had earlier:

I distinctly remember downloading a fix from Microsoft and that the fix was inc. in SP1.

PS. or it could have been SP2.

Hope you get it sorted. It was really annoying for me when I had this message keep popping up.
I now get notified when updates are ready to install and they come along regularly for Win XP.
