AOL Netgear DG834G package, no going to go with AO

Hi all,

Just reassure me, have bought a Netgear DG834G Modem router on Ebay.

It is for a mate, installing in a couple of weeks.

I am sure that the unit is standard, the only thing AOL about it is the wizard disk included. I will be able to manually configure it with no problems for any other ISP.....won't I?

Thanks, Epirb.

Shouldn't be a problem , but you know where to come if there is ....

I think we are both right too.

Just the appauling typos in the title to apologise for and we can move on!

Many thanks,

look on bottom of router it will tell you your IP adress type that in internet explorer put ur passname and pass key ( on bottom of router) and you can configure change or install software to get you going

Have you managed to use the router with another ISP yet? Am thinking of getting one on ebay myself, but don't want to if it's going to be locked to AOL.

Hi, I'm moving to AOL shortly but out of interest I've asked AOL technical support if the router they provide is Locked to AOL (since ideally once my contract is up and if I move to another ISP i'd like to use the router) and their reply was, I quote:

'No, it is not the case. The Router supplied to you is not Locked to AOL. You may go ahaead and use it with any ISP. '

Hope this helps.

Thanks, please let me know how it goes on monday

Router all up and running.

Used the wizard to set it up which was as taxing as selecting Virgin from a drop down menu and entering user name and password!!!

Top bit of kit and all is well, good luck and thankyou gentlemen.

Brgds, Epirb
