any ideas on how to connect a laptop to t.v

trying to connect laptop to t.v via vga port and hdmi port through an adaptor. I have connected everything up but t.v reads no signal still. Where am I going wrong?

I am using my laptop's vga port and plugging that cable into a adaptor which then plugs into the hdmi port in my t.v

What sort of adapter are you using, a cheap cable adapter will not work, it needs to be a converter. As beta has said vga is analogue.

What ports does the TV have apart from HDMI?

Make and model of TV make and model of laptop?

Thanks Beta, atleast I know what to look for.

Fruit Bat my t.v has ports for -scart, hdmi, audio, USB and CI card. It is a Technika 19-248. My laptop is a HP Probook 6560b, I'll be honest I have no idea what half the ports are but I know it has USB and a VGA port.....

Is it this one? sse page 14

Probook should have a display port

the cable you then need is a display port to HDMI input

Oh , is that the only cable I need? Seems far easier than faffing around with a converter!! Will it definitely work? I don't want to buy yet another cable that I cannot return, I have quite a stash now
