Antivirus XP 2010 removal help please

  Chris Webster 16:37 15 Mar 2010

I am trying to remove Antivirus XP 2010 from my friends computer, but I'm having no luck so far.

I've downloaded Malwarebytes to a key drive and renamed the exe file but it still won't let me run it.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Regards, Chris.

Go to the MBAM program folder here
C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware {double click the folder}

rename mbam.exe to rabbits foot.exe
double click on rabbits foot.exe to start MBAM.
scan.. remove detected items...once clear you can rename the executable file back to mbam.exe

Sorry or is this what you have already done

I've already tried the above but it still won't open malwarebytes.

I've tried it in normal boot up and in safe mode.

Regards, Chris.

Have you tried running it in safe mode?

Which operating system is the PC running?

  Chris Webster 21:28 15 Mar 2010

Rkill did the trick, thank you.

I've scanned with Malwarebytes (numerous times), Ad-Aware and AVG Free and it now seems to be clean.

How do you end up get this nasty in the first place?

Thanks, again.

Regards, Chris.
