another graphics card upgrade question

  iqs 15:30 12 Mar 2008

RADEON ATI X1950pro 256mb PCI express

I have the above card, and would like to upgrade to a better graphics card.A card that will play games like Crysis at its best, and future state of the art releases.

I have about £150 to spend.

Any recommendations please.

agreed. 8800gt is the very best you can get for that kind of money

I agree with citadel and keef66 a 8800GT is the best at that price range.

Although the ATI 3850 is a good card as well and within your price range, might be worth looking for reviews to compare them.

Hi,and thanks for all your suggestions.I was thinking of the 8800gt,it has great reviews. But there are so many different makes. So which make offers the best in performance and price please?.

  keef66 11:20 13 Mar 2008

All 8800gt's use the same graphics chip, so the only differences in performance will be down to the amount and speed of the memory, and the clock speed of the chip itself. After that you should be looking for a decent warranty, and a cooling solution that doesn't sound like a hoover.

I'd suggest you read some reviews of specific manufacturers' models.

I had 2 MSI cards before the one I have now and MSI graphics cards are excellent. And since its the retail pack it will probably some with loads of extra cables etc as mine both did and I assume MSI haven't changed that.

Anyone want to lend me £146? Well give me £146 to be honest as I'm broke?

  iqs 17:14 13 Mar 2008

and thanks again for the links and advice.£146 in well within my budget, but before I make the purchase, can I ask another question please.

Most of the cards state they are DX10 cards,I run WIN XPSP2 with the latest ver of DX9.

Is DX10 compatible with XP or is it just for nasty VISTA?.

Thank you all again.Cheers

dx10 is vista only but dx10 cards work with dx9.
