AMD Opteron or AMD Athlon 64

Hi all,

I have around £100 to £130 to spend and I wish to buy only either the AMD Opteron or AMD Athlon 64 and I wish to know which one is the best for my needs.

I not not intend to play any games on the PC the only high end pacakage that I might run would be Photoshop CS.

Of course if I can get away with only spending £100 rather than £130 thats even better.

Also is there any sites out there that compare these two CPU's

You will notice no difference between the two. Buy the cheaper and put the money towards an external HD.

by the way Opteron is very expensive

personally, I would go for AMD Athlon 64 3200+ S939 OEM £119.86 click here

alternatively AMD (Winchester) Athlon 64bit 3200+ 939pin 512kb L2cache 90nm Retail Boxed Processor With 3 Year Warranty and Fan Included £124.39 click here

hi jcotton. do you have a mobo already for the new cpu you wish to get. i only ask this as opteron is 940 pin and athlon64 is 939 pin for the latest versions or 754 pin for the older versions and as you can see would require a different mobo for any of the cpu's choosen.
