All video files not registered.

98SE, WMPlayer9.

I get a 'file not registered' response when I try to open any video file in WMP. And other players act the same.

This happenned after I installed/uninstalled free DivX player.

Reverting to an earlier ver of the Registry does not fix it.

The file types are not listed, but when I try to introduce a new file type ( for example .wmv ) Windows says the extension is already taken.

Any ideas, please?

if my memory serves me correct the free divx player has a few third party progs attatched it may be worth running spybot adaware and ccleaner incase you dont have them here are the links

Spybot click here

Adaware click here

ccleaner click here

ccleaner should clear any remenents of divx
i hope this helps

Thanks Zaphod Beeblebrox

( BTW In my first post 'file not registered' should read ' CLASS not registered' - sorry.

Had already done all that you suggested.

Also scandisc in safe mode. Also ran Regseeker.

(DivX tries to install the google toolbar unless you refuse. And also tries to ring home with 'usage'.)
