agp cards

i need a graphics card but i want it at 4x for this mobo but i want to know if i can get one at 8x but backward compatible for 4x it must have directX 9X on it i cannot find any cards that are of 4x with direct x 9x on them but are plenty in 8x i run windows 98se, 800mhz p3, with 512 ram any help will be welcome please, much regards

Any 8X AGP card should be backward compatible with your motherboard as long as it takes a 1.5 volt card. As for the type of card, that depends on what you want to do with it, PSU output etc.

8x cards work in 4x slots but only at 4x. The speed difference is small between 4x and 8x. A mid range card fx5700 or 9600xt would be best as your processor is not fast enough to get a top of the range card out of second gear.
