you don't say how you normally launch this program - do you insert the cd and wait for it to autorun or do you access it through a shortcut or the 'start - all programs - age of empires?

from the cd, when the window comes up I press play game, the timer appears then goes off, and nothing happens

Does it run if you try through the start menu? (Start/All Programs/etc..)

I'm sure there must be a clever fix but have you considered re-installing it?

If you have saved games you don't want to lose you should be able to find these under the 'Age of Empires' directory and copy them to another location. Re-install the game, then copy them back into the same directory.

Also see if your graphics/sound card drivers are ok in device manager.

IT works fine for me on XP home. It's picky as to which drive the CD is in though.

I have re-installed both games, they did work the last time I played them on XP, I have been using easycleaner since to find unnecessary files, & to clean the regestry?.

After enabling error reporting, I get the message ERROR SIGNATURE
APPNAME:AGE2_X1.ICD
APPVER: 0.7.22.627
MODNAME: AGE2_X1.ICD
MODVER: 0.7.22.627
OFFSET: 00216AE1
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
