Advice On Second Hard Drive

Several questions need answering please!!

My mate has bought a new PC and I took his old one. It has a 80GB hard drive in it which I have now put into mine as a 'backup'. My main hard drive is a Sata and this one is an older IDE type. They won't conflict will they? It won't slow my PC down? Should I put an O/S on it?

I also found after I installed this that I have an extra CD drive!!

NO conflict and it wont slow down the PC

Change the drive letter and it will be recognised as a HDD

No, shouldn't be a problem. I had a similar setup sometime ago, until I got another SATA drive.

No

>>Should I put an O/S on it?>>

No, unless you want to boot from it (you'll have to change boot order in the BIOS), which you wouldn't want to do as the SATA is the 'better' one of the two.

Now, that's a mystery. How many CD drives do you physically have installed & how are they showing up in Device Manager? G

OK this is how they are in My Computer:-

Hard Disk Drives

'C' Local Disk

'F' Local Disk

Devices With Removable Storage

'A' Floppy Drive

'D' DVD Re-Writer

'E' DVD-Rom

'G' Card Reader

'H' CD Drive??? Which I don't know what it is.

What do you see when you right-click 'H' & select Properties. G

Type:- CD Drive

File System:- Unknown

Used Space:- 0 Bytes

Free Space:- 0 Bytes

So it isn't actually anything but I don't know why it is there.

H used to be compressed drive letter for MS Drive Space. Check out the drive as not used Drive Space it can be a Pain to Remove. Was the Disc in a Win98 or Win ME computer?

I take it you mean the old hard drive. That was in an XP Pro PC.
