pc badly needs a reformat ( xp home).
is it worth getting xp x64bit version and will my system run on it.i have an amd sempron 3400+ 64bit this the only thing that needs to be 64 bit supported to run this os.
will i see any benefit over the xp home edition.
will i be better off waiting and getting vista.

No you wont see any advantages of upgrading to a 64bit OS. Most things dont take use of the extra 32bits yet. My advice save the money towards a new PC. What you have sounds perfectly fine. And with Vista out in a few days x64 XP is a pointless exercise.

As to you first question, I agree with Creature of the Nite. Although the 3400+ sempron is not the fastest off the blocks, it should run vista with the appropriate hardware. Though I would stick with the 32bit vista version.

Try click here - its free and the 64 bit version works fine on mine. It even regognised my webcam, which the win XP pro 64 would not. Use a spare HD to try it out. I use a HD caddy.

If you want to buy the Win XP 64 bit, try Ebay in different countries for a cheaper buy.
