Advent 551 CMOS Battery

  Grendyl 12:20 08 Jan 2011

Just a quick question. I need to replace the CMOS battery in the above laptop, can anyone tell me the product number of the battery required or if not which battery is best suited.

just to add its an Advent 5511, not 551 as in the title

As it's an Advent which is from PC World,Dixons,Currys etc. you may find you will have to take it back there for it to be replaced - something to do with the BIOS password being "locked" - see this click here - unless someone else knows of a way around this.

Removing A Cmos Battery should clear any Passwords in the CMOS Settings

Yeah I know about the BIOS lock, but this can be by passed by upgrading the BIOS.

Morning Grendyl - I can't find anything relating to product number or "type" required for your Advent but are you aware of the work involved to replace ? - click here

  Grendyl 12:59 09 Jan 2011

yes, i've seen the kind of problems it can give .. but have also seen posts where the battery can be changed just by removing the keyboard .. I may even just disconect the old battery, connect a new one and find somewhere to place it (leaving the old one in place but not connected), thing is because of the problems this is causing it has to be replaced.

If it's any help , your Advent 5511 is a re-badged ECS u51 , so a visit to the ECS website might help .

Hi Grendyl - I have had a look on the ECS website but can't find anything relating to CMOS battery (search comes up blank)

Grendyl - have alook here - click here- this relates to a different model but it is probably the same procedure. If you can get to the battery you may find it is a standard CR2032

THank you, I knew I'd seen it somewhere
