adsl/cable wireless router

can anyone tell me if there is a wireless router that can be used for both adsl and cable broadband modems. i have been told that you can only have one or the other, that dsl is totally different to adsl when it comes to how they attach to a router. the reason i ask is that at present i am on ntl (cable) but i am thinking about changing to talk talk (bt's adsl line) so would like a wireless router that i can use on both and not have to change if i do change isp. also, any recommendations to a wireless router and pcmcia laptop card that use wpa encryption as well as wep would be gratefully received as this wireless lark is all new to me! (ps - the router would also need at least two ethernet ports on it for my wired networked comps.) thanks in anticipation for any help
