Acer recovery not working

I bought an Acer desktop just last week and it did come with a lot of excess software on it (McAfee and a load of silly games) which I deleted but I think I went too far (entirely my fault) so I thought I would do a factory restore - it failed. I get a dos window which states that 3 files are missing - PAP01I4P00000015.ini, PAP01I4P00000016.ini and PAP01I4P00000017.ini and as it boots into windows it I get 'The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation' over and over again.

I have no idea what themissing files are. I have managed to copy the PQSERVICE partition onto a USB stick - Is there anything I can do with it? Can I create some installation CD/DVD?

I expect I can get this fixed under warranty but if I could fix it myself I would be happy to give it a go.

Try the Acer Factory Recovery

"When the system is powered on, tap the Alt and F10 keys together at the same time when the Acer splash screen appears.
It should state "Please wait a moment..." with the Acer logo in the upper left hand corner"

I would personally contact ACER and explain your problem and ask them to send you the 3 .ini files you are missing.

Thanks, I have (after a lot of difficulty) raised this on the Acer website, just waiting for them to respond, I think they will ask for the PC to be sent back, which I would rather avoid

The missing files are obviously part of your Boot.ini which is preventing you from starting up and accessing the "Recovery" I would always advise people to BACKUP to avoid any problems. I always backup to a 2nd hard drive (Clone) then if anything goes wrong you can be "up and running" again in minutes. Using the factory recovery setup you will have to reinstall all programs again.
