Acer predator laptop cd drive not working

So over a year ago I got an Acer Predator laptop and the CD drive worked fine. I quickly replaced it for the fan they had provided as it would be more useful. However, after I swapped them, when I put the CD drive back it makes noises but it doesn't read anything and doesn't appear in "This PC". Can anyone suggest how to make it work?

Have you tried device manager, click on the Action tab. If you get the 'help' only in the context menu, click a blank space and open Action tab again. This time select 'scan for hardware changes'. See if it shows up.

Thank you for reply, that didn't make any difference sadly.

Is the dive firmly placed in its slot before you used the screw to lock in place. Remove the drive again, then make sure it is firmly in place, then fix with the screw. It just might be a bad connection.

There is no screw. You just push it into the slot and it locks in. There is just a button to push down to unlock it and swap the fan in.

So removing and reinstating made no difference?

None at all.

Are you sure that you have connected all the relevant cables?
