acer num pad problems

  Key Bored 20:06 11 May 2010

have just bought a new acer aspire 5332 laptop. And despite all efforts i cannot get the num pad to function.

Any ideas would be appriciated.

A friend had the same problem which turned out to be the mouse pad being disabled. For the 5332 the pad enable/disable is not controlled via Fn F7, but by the left hand button next to the power button. If the left hand led is on, then the mouse pad is disabled (the led to the right hand side of power is for wifi connectivity - which is why it flashes). My led is off now and all is good.

It could also be a driver problem - there is a Drivers Recovery CD Restore Disk download here which fixes ALL drivers for the 5332 - may be worth looking at should other methods fail.

Many thanks northumbria for your input but its the numeric keypad on the right of the keyboard which I cannot get to work. Any ideas?

Have you tried Fn key plus F12 (or maybe F11)

You could try updating the driver via Device Manager - click on Keyboard then right click and select "Update Driver Software"

If it's new it should work without having to mess around... are you sure you haven't pressed "num lock" (number lock) on keyboard.

Did any of the above suggestions help ?
