hi ive an acer laptop running on windows vista,my question is it has 2 hard drives built in the first one, acer(C:) is just about full and the second one DATA(D:) is empty with 50.6GB free,is it time to start useing it? and should i transfer stuff over to the empty hard drive? and how do i do this? plus could this be the reason my laptop is running a bit slow?

You haven't got 2 hard drives,it was divided into 2 partitions.

To transfer your files just drag or move it to D drive.

There are many reasons why it could be running slow of which a full hard drive is one.

Keep your programs on C and put your files on D.

Not strictly correct to say that DATA(D:) is empty. It contains a hidden partition which stores the necessary data to restore your laptop to factory conditions. It's hidden to stop you accidentally overwriting or deleting it.

Have you run disc cleanup and deleted old restore points ?

make sure you continue to the "more options" tab as mentioned in the link.

Have a look in "programs and features" and see if there are any applications you don't use... uninstall them.

Thanks everyone. When I move files from c drive to d drive it just copies it,have I got to delete the files after or am I doing it wrong?

Hold the shift key while you drag and drop this will "Move" rather than "Copy"
