I have an Acer 7720g which keeps cutting out and have been told its probably to do with the Vista operating system.Is it possible to downgrade it to windows XP and if so how.

I would say it is NOT vista your lappy is more than capable.
When you say cutting out you need to be a bit more specific, does it do this on startup at diferent times online offline, could be over heating, how do you use your lappy...

I have read on forums that vista tends to over heat the fan there for making it cut out which it does often when i am online.I dont run any games on it just general surfing.

It looks to be be a problem in SP1,go to event manager and look for errors then use the go online to find answer option(takes you to technet), you may have to copy and run a script to stop your pc shutting down randomly as it is a known error,repaired 3 pcs so far using this method.
