Accessing files on an old hard drive

I've just removed the hard drive from my old windows laptop and connected it externally to another windows laptop with the hope of accessing the files on it.

However, I only seem to have the option of accessing two files - OEM and EFI. Neither of these contain the files I want - just a series of programming files. Am I looking in the wrong place? Or are there problems with the hard drive?

your looking in the wrong place

they should be under #/user/youruser name/pictures/

where #= c: but will now have a different letter as its attachecd to your new machine.

I dont seem to have that option unfortunately :-/ When I plug the hard drive in it shows up as two separate folders :

ESP(G:) and Recovery (F:)

Neither of which show any signs of what I would consider "usual" files.

Does it not work in your old laptop?

Recovery may containg the recovery image for the old machine.

what shows under ESP?

Ah, that's probably quite a vital piece of information that I missed off my original post. On startup in the old laptop it was giving me a message along the lines of "No hard drive recognised". Which is the reason for me taking the hard drive out- i thought it was a problem with the laptop.

ESP contains another folder titled EFI which conatins folders labelled as Boot, Microsoft and OEM.

does it show part of the drive as unallocated?
