access denied

a friends computer failed hes asked me to make a disk of his files i am running his hard drive as a slve on mine but when i try to access his "document" i get a messages access is denied how can i get into his files 4 him?

i am on win xp pro my friends was xp home

Right-click the folder you wish to access (or files) and select "Properties". Now click onto "Security->Add->Administrators" and click OK.

You will now be able to access the file/folders

PS. You will probably have to change some settings to be able to view the "Secuirty" tab. All you need to do is untick the "Tools->Folder Options->View->Use Simple File Sharing" option.

i have got so far..i have the security tab but the "add" buttton is greyed out but there is an advance button

Yep, just the advance button and untick the "inhert permissions..." option and then you can add a group or user
