A7N8X2.0 BIOS flashed - performance plummets!

  Rikardos 20:31 12 Sep 2003

I've just updated my Bios for my Asus A7N8X2.0 motherboard and redone 3Dmark2001. Instead of my Radeon Sapphire 9700 Pro card giving me a reading of about 13800 or thereabouts, I'm getting something like 6800! Vice City is starting to judder when I'm playing it on the usual settings and I don't know what has changed apart from the BIOS. HELP!

BIOS version - 1003 as came with the board now changed to 1006 from the Asus website.

For ref:
Athlon 2800+
1GB of DDR3200 RAM
120GB Hard Drive
9700 Pro Graphics Card
Terratec DMX24/96 Soundcard

Many thanks for any help!

Did you set bios to defaults after flashing then after reboot change settings back to the way you had them.
If so and you still have same problems can only advise you to go back to previous bios.

Put them back to how they were before but still no joy - I've even tried flashing the BIOS back to the original number but still no joy - something has changed and I don't know what!

Is your processor running at the right speed it may have defaulted to 100 or 133 fsb it should be 166

Shouldnt a 9700 pro have been getting more than 13800 anyway? i only ask as i am thinking of buying a 9800 and i would have expected higher scores.

My GeForce 4 scores >>> click here

Found out what was wrong - when I flashed the BIOS the control panel for the card got erased from the Control Panel - once I reinstalled the panel and drivers (just to make sure) the scores went back again.

On the subject of the 3dMark score, I also found out that the 13800 score was with Anti-Aliasing and SmoothForm on. Once I redid the scores with the settings on "performance" the score went to 14850 or thereabouts.

Cheers for your help!
