About to do clean install for a friend. They have both 98SE and ME and have asked me which I recommend they go with.

Answers on a postcard please :-)

Neither - get XP.

I found ME to be very unstable - others don't. On the other hand ME has System Restore (which doesn't always work, especially in ME).

98 then, at least it is a well tried and stable system.

I say 98SE, ME is the worst, constant crashes.

If he can get a copy of win 2000 that it the best next to XP.

I have 98SE, I've not upgraded because I'm happy with it. I do have people telling me though that ME is better and more stable, but if there was no major problems last time running 98SE stick to what you know works.

XP is a lot stabler, but sometimes it's best to stick with what the hadware was designed for. A while ago everything was for 98, now it's all for XP, and putting 98 on a new PC can cause problems.

Now dual booting 98SE and Xp pro without probs, did try ME but went back to 98Se , better stability all round.

Ran ME for two years not one Bsod but agree with VoG XP much better.
