98SE Internet Connection Box

  CDL 11:51 23 Oct 2003

After numerous problems opening programmers etc etc I have eventually discovered the cause. On starting or restarting, the Internet Connection box is automatically displayed.I am unable to cancel it or close it with a single click. It takes 12 attempts - in other words it would appear that there are 12 instances of it active on start up ?? Anybody else experienced this ? How can I remedy it ? Thanks Chris

Could be spyware or dialers trying to dial up. Get a copy of spybot or similar and get rid of spyware. Then go to Start/Run and type msconfig, go to the startup progs tab and untick anything that doesn't NEED to run at startup, reboot and see what happens. If you still get the dialer box, pay attention to what is trying to dial, there may be an indication in the box heading. Also make sure you have a decent firewall installed such as Sygate or ZoneAlarm.
