9800pro performance question and freezeing!

  shortcircuit 22:42 17 Oct 2004

Hi .
I have/had a good reliable self built system....
XP2500 not clocked
DDR400 Kingston Ram 512Mb
Xp Home
Creative Audigy 1
Seagate 160GB 8MB.
9600SE radeon. Benchmarks at 8900 on 3d Mark 2001se

All ok for last 3 years, but recently upgraded to 9800pro.

Now I get frequent freezes when playing Call of duty...even when bench marking. It also only gets 12500 in 3Dmark 2001se. Does this sound like the normal score?

Have tried card in another system and it bench tests at same score, but didn't freeze.

That pc was a new build which had a PC chips and a new sempron 2200.( which actually overclocks very well to 1.9Ghz!)

Does anyone know what could cause this. I have the most upto date drivers as well.

Thanks very much. But does my bench test scores seem low?

customers happy.

At the end of the day, Benchmark testing is a fad.
Say you benchark and went of that now then 12 months later again benchmark and found a bad one you would start looking for improvments.

If a machine runs smooth, no glitches it does what you want why worry over bench marking figures.

Trying to get perfection is a dead end with computers.

Thanks Kallita.

I did have another problem as i was getting Disk read error every time I turned it on. It would need a reboot to get it to run...I solved this by getting it to search for floppy first...then hoping that HHd was up to speed. Seems to have cured it!
