64 Bit Os - 32 Bit applications

  L_Driver 15:47 14 Dec 2009

Looking to change my PC some time next year and looking at Dell site virtually all are offered with a 64 bit OS as standard. Is this in any way problematic ? I have 3 pieces of very, very expensive software namely VB6, Photoshop Suite and Office 2000. Will these cause issues on a 64 bit OS ? The VB6 suite in particular at launch states "VB6 SP6 For 32bit development". I would hate any of these applications to become obsolete over a new bit of hardware!

I dont know about VB6 but photoshop cs3, nero 7 and a load of other 32bit progammes work on win 7 with my puter.

Right click on the exe. install file and choose 'Trouble compatability' before installing.

Check the Microsoft site see if Office 2000 is compatible with Win 7 at all.

VB6 is compatibile click here.

Office 2000 click here needs an upgrade apparently.

Photoshop compatibility click here - you didn't say which version exactly, so you'll need to check the list.

As jimv7 suggests, try the Compatibility Mode click here or XP Mode (see below) as a last resort.

If you're using Win7 Pro/Ultimate/Enterprise, & your CPU is capable of hardware virtualisation, you could also try the XP Mode click here. G

Well, going by the responses in your other thread click here, Office 2000 will work with Win7 64-bit. G

I have W7 64 bit, recently installed. Photoshop CS4 loads both 64 bit and 32 bit versions; only problem I have found is that on the 64 bit version my Canon MP640 with updated drivers will only scan in WIA mode , not Twain as I was used to in XP. What I do is to do my scanning with the 32 bit programme (when Twain works ok) then use 64 bit for working on the pix. I am awaiting a reply from Adobe Tech on this point. Secondly, I had to buy a new version of Acronis True Image (version 2010)
Note Crossbow 7 's last point- although I have Ultimate my 3 year old motherboard will not support visualisation so I did not download that add - on.
