36 processes running on boot up

I've just been doing some work in Paintshop Pro 8 but seems to have slowed down to a halt.

Possibly the files I am working with are a bit large but everything takes an age.

I started turning off things in the sys tray that I was not using and got some speed back.

However just got slower and slower, I did Ctrl Alt Del and found loads of processes running so decided to reboot and see just how many run at start up. 36 Can I get rid of any?, last time I did a MsConfig, I disable quite a few things at start up but got the Alert box suggesting I put things back.

Win XP Pro, 2800. 512 ram.

You can sfely untick any programs that are not running you system, but don't untick your antivirus or firewall.

You can safely un-tick all as rawprawn advises.

When you reboot just put a tick in don't show this notification again. You should not see it again till you alter msconfig again.

Also look in the services tab. This is a bit more tricky but you can disable some of the services to speed things up a it.

Have you checked your virtual memory settings, tweaking them may also help,
