Why cant i shutdown Win 2000 SP4? It restarts instead of shutting down.

And what is mmc.exe as after start up i sometimes have 5 or 6 open.

Think that mmc.exe is "Microsoft management centre" As to why it is causing a problem, I'm not sure. This will bring you back to the top of the postings and maybe someone with knowledge of this will explain. j.

How can you get all folders to automatically auto arrange?

"How can you get all folders to automatically auto arrange?"....whats that mean then?

" i sometimes have 5 or 6 open.". Think that needs explaining a bit better as well.

All folders to automatically arrange, so they dont go off the screen sideways. Is there like a registry key?
I set most as auto arrange, then later it is turned off.

How can i stop it restarting instead of shutting down?

Put your windows CD into the CD ROM and hold the shift key (the one with arrow pointing up, just above the Ctrl key on the left of your keyboard). Holding shift for a few seconds will stop the Windows CD from auto running, but the drive will still spin up to read the disk then spin back down again. Once it has spun down you can release the shift key.

Now click Start/All Programs/Accessories and choose Command Prompt. Type in

sfc /scannow

and hit enter. This will check and replace any damaged system files.

Tried sfc /scannow, it didnt say it had to change any files. Still doesnt work. I have some service disabled based on the Windows_2000_Services_Information_REV5 PDF file.

Could it be a problem with apci? or whatever that power thing is?
