1Gig of Ram only showing as 512Meg

I have just been given a Fujitsu Amilo L7300 laptop which only had 256meg of Ram I have an old HP laptop of about the same age with a dead mother board which had a 1Gig stick of ram.

After finding out online how to change the ram (under keyboard) and that it will only accept 1Gig total upto 512 in each slot I fitted the 1gig stick to see if it would work, it only shows 512 would a bios flash allow it to see all 1 gig?

Highly unlikely. It will be a chipset limitation, rather than BIOS.

If it will only take 512 in each slot then that is all it will see.

"would a bios flash allow it to see all 1 gig"

The only BIOS flash does not say it changes RAM support in any way - so no a BIOS flash won't change things.

This RAM supplier says it will take up to 2GB RAM, but needs specific RAM types. click here

As does this data sheet click here and the user manual says 2GB too (though it does say "depending on the model")

So it's probably the wrong type of RAM you've got. You need low density RAM, and what you have is presumably high density.

Thanks it was a stick not being used so 512 is better than 256
