Processor Type Intel Pentium M Processor 735

Composite Theoretical Performance (CTP) 3033333 MTOPS

Processor internal clock speed[1] 1.70 GHz

Front side bus 400 MHz

from this it looks like it is what it says it is, 1.7ghz

Sorry, either im being stupid or i didnt explain myself properly. I'm considering buying a centrino 1.7 ghz laptop but also realise there are AMD based laptops for sale at similar price. these laptops have chips of around 3200ghz, but are they actually twice as fast??

I realise that they are not, so wwas wondering if someone could enlighten me with a rough equivalent of the 1.7 chip??

Thanks, sorry if ive been stupid!

I remember reading that the Pentium M 1.5GHz compares very well with the Pentium 4 2.4GHz.

So my guess is a Pentium M 1.7GHz will compare well to a P-4 2.6GHz CPU (if not higher, since the new Pentium M Dothan core performs better than the old core Banias).

On the notebook platform, AMD is a much smaller player, and I don't know much about it.

If you intend to use the laptop as a mobile laptop, often running on battery, a Pentium M is your choice.
