TR Underworld Graphics

  cycoze 13:57 25 Oct 2008

I just tried out systemrequirementslab . com's "can you run it ?" click here to see how my PC will fare for Underworld, unfortunately it fails on the graphics.

Not sure why it does not meet the requirements...

Video Card
Minimum: NVIDIA GeForce 6 series 6800GT (or better)/ATI 1300XT (or better)
You Have: ASUS X1300 Series (ATI Radeon Graphics Processor (0x7142))

Video Card Features - Minimum attributes of your Video Card
Video RAM: Required - 128 MB , You have - 512 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
Video HW Transform & Lighting: Required - Yes , You have - Yes
Vertex Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0
Pixel Shader Ver.: Required - 3.0 , You have - 3.0

Anyone see why it fails?

So i guess i will need a new card, unfortunately i cannot afford very much at all, so i had a look at my local shop and they have the following...

Xvision 512Mb Geforce 8400GS Super PCI-EX16 £34

Xvision 512Mb Geforce 9400GT Super PCI-EX16 £45

Xvision 1Gb Geforce 8600GT Super PCI-EX16 £60

Xvision 1Gb Geforce 9500GT Super PCI-EX16 £60

They stock more recognisable names like Asus but they cost far too much, so suggestions please, will one of the above cheaper cards blitz the game or do i need to spend the £60 or more.

The Demo of the game should be available on Tuesday for PC and Xbox.

Are you seriously going to spend money on a new card on the basis of that one result? The requirements say 6800 or better and I'd be more inclined to believe the developers.

I don't want to spend any money at all if i can help it, that's why i am asking :)

The card i have at present ASUS X1300 struggled with the full-on graphics in both the last two games, so end result i had to switch off a lot of the extras, the card however came scored "adequate pass" on the tests.

Best way to see if it will run on your pc is to download the demo.

I ran the website and passed, but the true test will be the demo.

Be one of the first to download the demo here.

Will be interesting to see how fast the download goes due to traffic.

I will try the demo first Wolfie.

I have found systemrequirementslab to be pretty accurate in the past, so with that in mind, what do you think of the cards i posted above?

  wolfie3000 16:46 26 Oct 2008

Well it depends if you wish to play other games in the future,

The better cards will ensure that you will be able to play future releases but its up to you,
Try to go for one thats within budget but also will allow you to play future games.

So i would recommend the Xvision 1Gb Geforce 9500GT Super PCI-EX16.

Thanks Wolfie, will give the demo a go and if the card is too slow i can pick the new one up before the game is released.

played the demo and the graphics look absolutely amazing. It looks much better than Far cry on my PC.The way the light shines through the forest canopy onto Lara as she walks and the background detail is quite jaw dropping.
Can't wait to get back to tomb raiding when it's released.
