Gaming PC Problems, Help me please!

  CONeill 20:03 04 Dec 2018

Hello I am new to PC gaming, around 2 months ago a purchased a Stormforce Onyx A8 9600, 8GB Ram for £400. I thought this would be able to run most games... I was wrong. Although it is ok when it comes to casual gaming, I would prefer something that could run at least Garry’s Mod servers smoothly. Would anyone be able to tell me if I am able to upgrade my current pc or would I have to either buy a new one or start from scratch? This PC has integrated graphics so I am unsure if I can add a graphics card. I am pretty sure there is a slot for a graphics card on the motherboard but as I have been reading there is a lot of things you have to think about also such as size and if there will be enough power to run it. If I’m able to add a decent graphics card will this be enough to run games smoothly or would I have to upgrade different things inside the PC? I can provide all specs if needed, sorry for all the questions I just do not have a clue when it comes to PCs. I appreciate any help! Thanks.

If it's a modern pc you should be able to slot in a new graphics card but you would have to look at your PSU it may not be powerful enough

Best thing is to post your specs and everyone will have a better idea of what you have

please don't be offended when I say this but I googled the spec of this pc , amazon users say its no good for gaming. From previous experience of using low spec machines when you want to upgrade to better componants it can turn into a money pit , just changing the g card wont solve your problems. You may need more ram and a bigger psu then of course you need to make sure the cpu can handle all the newer items and in the end the upgrades can cost as much as what you have already spent.

If I was you , and this is only my personal opinion I would keep the pc you have for general surfing and get a better quality custom built pc just for gaming.

I get my gear from pc specialists , you can custom build your rig on their site and before you place the order you could ring them and ask them if your choice of componants are good enough for gaming.

DISCLAIMER !!! so that the FE don't grumble at me ……. there are of course other companies that make custom built pc's

On Game Debate the specs to run Garry's Mod is very modest.

Recommended Requirements

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.8GHz / AMD Athlon XP 1600+

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 3600 Series or NVIDIA GeForce 6800 XT

System Memory: 1 GB RAM

Storage: 150 MB Hard drive space

That's for 1080p at 60fps on high.

What other games are you running because that PC should be able to handle Garry's Mod okay?

Find the most demanding game you are playing and set a spec around that. Or if a budget is in place, see what the best spec you can get for that money is compromising as necessary.
