XP Pro or XP MCE and Viiv processor or not?

41 years in computing and I'm finally confused.

I want to replace my current Pentium 3 1Ghz Win XP Home that has been upgraded to the eyeballs. I mostly use it for photographic imaging, video, music, DVD creation, page layout and all the normal MS Office stuff. Plus of course Internet. But never gaming, etc. I have loads of legacy software that I use daily and that needs to be able to run.

So, would a Viiv processor and Win XP MCE be the best option, or XP Pro and a different processor, and if an old faithful program works on XP Home, is it likely to do so on a dual core system running MCE? Would a Viiv be faster for the sort of stuff I do than a differnt Intel processor of similar speed?

XP Media Center Edition would appear to be an obvious choice, but....?

I think it would be best to go for The Pentium D (dual core) with Intel ViiV Technology and by the way MCE is Xp Professional with the Media Centre Program.
All of Intel Pentium D, Intel Core Duo and Pentium Extreme Edition now support Viiv Technology with them
The Pentium D runs from 2.8ghz to 3.4ghz
