I'm considering purchasing a camcorder for when I go away on holiday with my wife and two children, but I'm afraid that all of the technical jargon for these items leaves me baffled. Do I buy a HDD one, or DVD etc? Can anyone recommend a good one from their own personal experience? Thanks

If you could give us an idea of your budget, we could probably advise you better.

Done it again!! That'll teach me to do two things at once. I'll be prepared to spend up to £500'ish. Thanks.

from a Mini DV tape. I have a Canon HV10, which I can thoroughly recommend click here I don't know this retailer but their price is the best I could find.

How does Mini DV tape models compare to the newer memory card models that are now available?

I would agree that mini-DV offers convenience, and also a price advantage.

I would suggest you consider the Sony DCR-HC96. Well reviewed, and well within your budget.
